Naneghat, also known as NanachaAngtha(Nana's Thumb), is a part of Western Ghats and is located near Junnar Taluka. The place is called so because it served as a trade route from Kalyan to Junnar. ‘Toll’ was collected from the traders who used this route; hence the name Naneghat (Nane - coin and Ghat - pass)got picked up.Located at a height of 2,461 ft., Naneghat forms a short-cut between Konkan and Deccan regions. As one enters this region, one is welcomed by a huge ancient cave that proudly carries the remnants of its history. The walls of the caves have numerous inscriptions, sculptures and gods carved etc.
Shivneri Fort is famous for being the birthplace of great Shivaji. Shivaji spent his childhood in the fort and took lessons of all his military training here.
